Early One Morning…

I stayed down in Plymouth Friday night as I wanted to check on the boat and put some stuff back on it to clear some room at home. I’m going to wait until the New Year to start any work proper on her, but the sails are in for a launder (and I’m having a third reefing point put on).  I’ve also washed the running rigging and that, along with the cushions have had to go back on the boat.

I shot this little video after wandering the yard, as you do, and realising that there were LOTS of Hurleys in there. I’ve subsequently found out that the sad one in the corner is called ‘Chickin George’ and was a bit of a legend on the race circuit, apparently having an extra over size rig. Funnily enough, I’ve noticed that Chickin George, along with an A.B. Chubb is engraved on my trophy for the year 1984.  It’s a small world…

So after giving Duet a quick air while I had breakfast in the cafe, we were off again.  I wanted a good walk for the dog so we turned right out the yard rather than back onto the motorway and home.  Eventually I found some interesting looking brown National Trust signs to Wembury Church and Beach.  Lovely, it was just just what I wanted and there was a 4 mile looped walk along the coast path that gave us gorgeous views across the River Yealm and out towards the Mew Stone.  I’d nearly gone in there on that long struggle up from Salcombe (11 hours into a f5) but I decided against it as my depth sounder wasn’t working at the time.  Now I’ve seen it I’m glad I didn’t try as it’s narrow, and the bar looks wide.

Great walk, I’d definitely recommend it if you’ve never been and are near.  It was a lovely unseasonably warm day and there were some boats out past the Mew Stone.  I would rather have been out there, but I took some pictures… Sorry about the copyright, someone’s been stealing my photos off the site :-(
